They Just Cant Stop! Manchester City Wins Their First Super Cup

Pep Guardiola's men added yet another trophy to their collection as they beat the Europa League winners Sevilla 5-4 on penalties following a one one draw in the regular time.

Sevilla took the treble winner by surprise in the first half when Youssef En-Nesyri headed a Marcus Acuna's cross past city's goalkeeper to give them a 1-0 lead. The reigning Europa league champions dominated the major part of the match and were almost doubling the lead if not for Manchester city's goalkeeper Ederson who made some very crucial saves to keep the citizens in the game.

However Cole Palmer revived City's hope when he headed Rodri's cross to make it 1-1 with only 30 minutes left to player. The 21 years old midfielder looks like he is up for the task of filling Riyad Mahrez shoes after the Algerian skipper left the club to start a new chapter in Saudi Arabia.


Palmer continues to prove his boss and the club at large that there is no need to buy Mahrez replacement because he is capable of delivering. The youngster also scored against Arsenal during the community shield making it 2 goals in 2 matches , what a way to prove your worth!

With no winner after full time, both teams had to choose five of their best penalty takers for a test of nerve and composure in the shootout. It was a real intense as both teams scored their first four spot kicks.

However after Kyle Walker lucky shot scored past the goalkeeper to score City's fifth, Nemanja Gudelj hit the crossbar to give Manchester City a fourth trophy in 2023 and making Guardiola's record to four super cup trophies.

Manchester City returns to league action on Saturday when they host Newcastle at the Etihad in their second match of the league defense. The citizens are still missing the service of their skipper Kevin De Bruyne who limped out with a arm string during their encounter with Arsenal  two weeks ago in a community shield match.

Sevilla will play away against Alaves on Monday in the Spanish Laliga.

The World Cup of shocks continued on Friday as wily Croatia dumped favourites Brazil out on penalties. Brazil are gone, out of the World Cup that they always seemed so likely to win.
