The much awaited return of one of the most watched sport around the world finally happened this past weekend with some classic encounters to kick it off. The English premier league is back.
The 2023-2024 season started on Friday with a match between the defending champions Manchester City against the newly promoted side Burnley, a match that saw the citizens former captain Vincent Kompany in charge of the host. Pep Guardiola's side started where they left off with an emphatic 3-0 victory over promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on a troubling night for the hosts off the field in which a spectator was apprehended for throwing an object at City’s Rico Lewis and another was arrested for trying to run on to the pitch.

Manchester United survived with a 1-0 win over Wolves at the Old Traford thanks to Raphael Varane header. United displayed one of the most horrific performance to start the league even though they survived thanks to their new signing goalie Andre Onana who managed to keep them in the game saving several shots from going in.
The red devils visits Tottenham Hotspur next on Saturday while Wolves host Brighton on the same day.
This was far from the performance Manchester United would have expected after a summer of lavish spending but they somehow got away with it and beat an excellent Wolves side 1-0 to start the season with three p French defender headed in the only goal of the game while the debutant goalkeeper made a series of saves to shut out an impressive Wolves side
