Nigeria Triumphant Against Egypt In Group D Opener

The African cup of nation continued on tuesday evening with three matches played in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria outshined the pharaohs of Egypt and got the well deserved three points in their first match of the campaign.

Kelechi Iheanacho's scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute, helping lead Nigeria past Mohamed Salah's Egypt in their Group D opener.

The finish from the Nigerian forward was a spectacular one, as he took a touch in the box before rocketing a shot past Mohammed El Shenawy for the goal of the tournament contender screamer.

This win places the black stars at the top of their table ahead of Sudan and Guinea Bissau who divided in their tournament opener match.

Nigeria  will face Sudan on Saturday while Egypt will be looking for their first win against Guinea Bissau.

In another game played on Tuesday, the defending champions Algeria were forced into a barren draw with Sierra Leon in their tournament opener.

The Sierra Leone defense remain impact for the entire game preventing the threats from Algeria from ending behind the net.

So it was thoroughly disappointing start for the holders, who have games against Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast to come in Group E.

Todays fixtures

Tunisia plays mali at 4pm, Mauritania plays Gambia whereas the Cote D'Ivoire will kick off their campaign against Equitorial Guinea.
