Host Cameroon Beat 10 Men Comoros To Proceed To Quarter Finals

Cameroon made heavy work of beating 10-man Comoros 2-1 on Monday to advance to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals at the expense of a team who had everything stacked against them in the last 16.

Karl Toko Ekambi and Vincent Aboubakar scored Cameroon’s goals as the hosts moved into a comfortable lead with 20 minutes remaining against Comoros, who were forced to use a left-back in goal due to a Covid outbreak and then had captain Jimmy Abdou shown a straight red card inside seven minutes.

Comoros still put up a gallant fight and, despite the considerable disadvantage, pulled a goal back from Youssouf M’Changama with nine minutes left via a stunning free-kick.

There was to be no late comeback though, but the tournament debutants certainly did themselves proud against one of the favourites to life the trophy.

In another round of 16 match,Musa Barrow scored a 71st-minute winner as Gambia continued their giant killing spree at the Africa Cup of Nations by pulling off an upset 1-0 win over Guinea in Bafoussam on Monday to advance to the quarter-finals.

The small west Africa country are the lowliest ranked of all the 24 participants at the tournament in Cameroon at 150 in the world and are making their debut at the finals.
