Chelsea's Nightmare Continues!

Image
Chelsea's poor performance continued on Sunday premier league action against Aston Villa when they lost 1-0 at the Stamford Bridge. This loss leaves the blues stranded at the half bottom of the premier league table having won only one match out of the six opening fixtures of the 2023/2024 season campaign. Although it was a tough game, some might say they could have done better since they created so many chances but failed to score. Nicolas Jackson, Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling were left frustrated when they could not shoot past Martinez who has never lacked confidence between the goal posts. The match went goalless at the break with Chelsea coming strong in the second half but they were reduced to ten men when Malo Gustavo was shown a red card for his tackle on Lucas Digne. The defender was initially shown a yellow card, but the referee decided to upgrade it to a red  after a VAR review. Villa took the advantage 15 minutes later when Thiago Silva made an awful...

Manchester United Dreadful Performance Continues!

Image
Manchester United lost 3-1 at home against Brighton on Saturday league action. This lost ended their one year unbeaten home run at the Old Trafford. Brighton looked sharp and were able to run all over Erick Ten Hag's side breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute with a calm finish from United former player Danny Welbeck giving the seagulls the much deserved lead. United equaliser was disallowed minutes later after Marcus Rashford crossed the line to give an assist from outside the pitch for Rasmus Hojlund to score what he thought was his first United goal. Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro added second-half goals for Brighton to make it 3-0 after poor defending but Hannibal Mejbri replied for Man Utd with a consolation goal. The red devils have now lost three of their opening five Premier League games for the first time in 34 years. Manchester United will play Bayern Munich next in the champions League on Wednesday night before resuming to league action on Saturday against Burnley. Brigh...

Arsenal Humbles Manchester United

Image
Mikel Arteta's side came from a goal behind to beat Manchester United 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium in a mouth watering encounter. The gunners dream of lifting the premier league has been revived judging from their performance on Sunday dominating most of the match especially in the first half. United were hit by two sucker punches in the second half injury time, as the gunners came from behind to claim all three points. Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock with a sensational strike in the 27th minute-his first goal of the season-but the Red Devils lead lasted for just 35 seconds, as Arsenal's captain Martin Odegaard fired in a shot to level the score. Arsenal were initially awarded a penalty in the second half by the referee Antony Taylor when Kai Havertz went to ground after running between Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka but it was overturned by the VAR. The VAR later worked against Manchester when substitute  Alejandro Garnacho  's 88th minute goal...

Darwin Nunez Rescues Liverpool's Sinking Ship

Image
Jurgen Klopp's side showed an impressive resilience at St. James Park to win against Newcastle despite their captain Virgil Van Dijk getting a straight red card in the 28th minute. Newcastle broke the deadlock two minutes before Van Dijk's sent off with a goal from Anthony Gordon following an horror show from Trent Alexander-Arnold who missed a pass from Mo Salah to gift the Magpies with a goal. The reds looked more vulnerable as Newcastle pushed them to the wall forcing Allison to make some best saves of the match keeping the visitors in the game. They were at the brink of losing all the three points until the 81st minute when substitute Darwin Nunez pulled one back with a quality finish before sealing the deal with another a million dollar finish in the 93rd minute to give Liverpool a 2-1 win. However the dreadful nature of the reds defense is something of a concern and they will have to look for a solution if they are to contest for the league title. Liverpool man...

Ten Man Fulham Denies Arsenal Two Points In A 2-2 Draw

Image
Mikel Arteta's side recovered from an early goal to lead 2-1 only for their poor concentration to cost them points in the dying minutes of the match. The gunners looked like they were going to get all the three points on a rainy London evening at the Emirates stadium only for a slip in concentration to allow for an equalizer by the Cottagers. Fulham scored their first goal less than 60 seconds into the match when Thomas Partey made an error gifting Andreas Pereira with an easy conversion past Aaron Ramsadale. Bukayo Saka levelled the match from the spot-kick in the 66th minute after Fabio Vieira was brought down in the box just 9 minutes before Eddie Nketiah fired home the second to give the host the lead. Despite Calvin Bassey earning a red card, Fulham refused to give up and finally got an equalizer in the 87th minute through Joao Palhinha conversion shot from a  corner cross. The host were forced to share points in a rather disappointing evening since they th...

Luton Sees Blue At The Bridge

Image
Chelsea recorded their first competitive match under Mauricio  Pochettino  with an impressive 3-0 victory over premier league new boys Luton Town on Friday at the Stamford bridge. Raheem Sterling scored a brace while Nicolas Jackson scored his first chelsea goal to seal the win with sixteen minutes left to play . It was the big-spending Blues' first win of the season after an opening day 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield and last Sunday's 3-1 defeat by Westham and only their second win in 15 premier league games including last season's dreadful run. Luton, playing just their second top-division game in 31 years -- after opening with a 4-1 defeat at Brighton and with a side assembled largely from players out of the lower divisions, spurned a chance to level on the hour. Ryan Giles had the goal at his mercy but Gusto half-blocked his shot and keeper Robert Sanchez reached for the looping ball. The home fans responded enthusiastically as Chelsea recor...

Ten Man Arsenal Beat Palace 1-0 In London Derby

Image
Mikel Arteta's side were able to overcome the threat of Crystal palace in the London derby to take all the three points in a highly contested match at the Selhurst Park. The gunners were down to ten men when Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off for pulling Jordan Ayew's shirt with 29 minutes remaining. The Japanese international had gotten himself booked seven minutes earlier for time wastage and so the referee had no choice but to give him a second yellow leaving the north London side a man less to fight for their lead. Arsenal took the lead in the 54th minute through Martin Odegaard's penalty conversion after Eddie Nketiah was brought down by the goal keeper . The England international(Nketiah) missed a couple of chances himself in the first half in attempts that saw him hit the posts and even loop a one on one chance over the keepers head only to land at the roof of the goal. Perhaps on a lucky day he would have scored a brace or more. However Mikel Arteta's men made it tw...

Ten Man Westham Humbles Chelsea In London Derby

Image
Mauricio Pochettino's side lost their first match of the new season in a highly contested London derby. The blues went down a goal with only seven minutes played at the London stadium when Nayef Aguerd headed James Ward-Prowse corner past Chelsea's keeper to give the hammers the lead. Carney Chukwuemeka scored the equalizer to give the visitors some hope but Enzo Fernandez missed a shot to put the blues ahead when he failed to convert a penalty after Rahim Sterling was brought down in the box. This was the first time Enzo missed a penalty in his career. The host added a second goal thanks to a floppy defense and errors which lead to Michail Antonio powerful shot past Sanchez. The cherry on top of a farcical cake came when Chelsea most expensive signing Moises Caicedo conceded a late penalty in the dying minutes of the game, sluggishly bringing Emerson down with Lucas Paqueta converting from the spot to seal a 3-1 win. Despite the lost Rahim Sterl...

Manchester Divided!

Image
Manchester United were thrashed 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in yet another horrendous show. Erick Ten Hag's side were misérable on Saturday when they played a very calm Tottenham and they were punished for it .The red devils survived with a goal in their league opener against wolves but this time it was different as they were unable to get a point and lost their first away match thanks to goals from Senegalese Pape Mater Sarr and a grievous own goal from Lisandro Martinez in the second half. Sarr broke the deadlock early in the second half with a composed close-range finish to score his first ever Tottenham goal. The host superiority was underlined as they doubled their lead late when an effort from Ben Davies hit Martinez on its way into the net. United point man Marcus Rashford did not offer anything substantial to worry their opponents. He gave a disappointing performance failing to lead the line properly or play with any sp...

They Just Cant Stop! Manchester City Wins Their First Super Cup

Image
Pep Guardiola's men added yet another trophy to their collection as they beat the Europa League winners Sevilla 5-4 on penalties following a one one draw in the regular time. Sevilla took the treble winner by surprise in the first half when Youssef En-Nesyri headed a Marcus Acuna's cross past city's goalkeeper to give them a 1-0 lead. The reigning Europa league champions dominated the major part of the match and were almost doubling the lead if not for Manchester city's goalkeeper Ederson who made some very crucial saves to keep the citizens in the game . However Cole Palmer revived City's hope when he headed Rodri's cross to make it 1-1 with only 30 minutes left to player. The 21 years old midfielder looks like he is up for the task of filling Riyad Mahrez shoes after the Algerian skipper left the club to start a new chapter in Saudi Arabia. Palmer continues to prove his boss and the club at large that there is no need to buy Mahrez replacement because he is ca...

Back Like It Never Left!

Image
The much awaited return of one of the most watched sport around the world finally happened this past weekend with some classic encounters to kick it off. The English premier league is back. The 2023-2024 season started on Friday with a match between the defending champions Manchester City against the newly promoted side Burnley, a match that saw the citizens former captain Vincent Kompany in charge of the host. Kompany received a warm welcome from  City's fans where he played for 11 years, winning four league trophies and was the captain from the center back position. . Pep Guardiola's side started where they left off with an emphatic 3-0 victory over promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on a troubling night for the hosts off the field in which a spectator was apprehended for throwing an object at City’s Rico Lewis and another was arrested for trying to run on to the pitch. Erling Haaland opened the scoring with his first kick of the game, poking in Rodri’s back-post header with a swe...

Arteta Laughs At Last!

Image
Mikel Arteta's side beat Manchester city 4-1 on penalties to win the community shield at Wembley on Sunday. The gunners came from a goal behind to force a 1-1 draw at the end of the added time before winning the tie on penalty shootouts. Although some may argue that the community shield is just a small pre-season friendly but truth be told, it must have felt good for Arteta and Arsenal to finally get the better of Manchester city who robbed them the league title last season. Judging from their celebration, this win was more of a message than a victory ahead of the new campaign. Arsenal would have lost out to city if not for Leandro Trossard's stoppage time effort that deflected in of Manuel Akanji. The goal cancelled Cole Palmer's fine opener as city aimed to win the community shield after losing three times in a row going back to 2019. Pep Guardiola side could only watch as Fabio Vieira converted the winning spot-kick as Arsenal scored all their penalties while Kevin De B...
