SPURS HUMBLES CITY IN THEIR FIRST MATCH DAY CAMPAIGN

 The defending champions Manchester city lost 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their opening game on Saturday evening.

pep Guardiola side who won the league comfortably last season look short of a goalscoring threat on their day one of the title defence.

City have lost back to back competitive matches coming to the Saturday game loosing to Chelsea in the Eufa champions League final and loosing to Leicester City in the community shield cup final.

Last season, Guardiola's side claimed the title without a recognised striker depending mostly on their attacking midfielders, this season it might not be a walk in the park.


Their most likely rivals - Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United - all won their league opener.

Admittedly they had a much tougher start from Totenham than the other contenders, but they drew a big, fat blank and the reasons why were clear for all to see - the lack of a goalscorer.

With the preamble to this standout fixture in the Premier League's opening weekend dominated by the future of Harry Kane, it was once more Son who stepped up to the mark, deciding a fiercely-competitive contest with his precise finish on 55 minutes.

Man city will host Norwich city in their next league fixture while Spurs will will visit Wolves.

The World Cup of shocks continued on Friday as wily Croatia dumped favourites Brazil out on penalties. Brazil are gone, out of the World Cup that they always seemed so likely to win. They were favourites in this game and likely would have been in all of the ones to come. That didn't matter to Croatia as they fought harder than before to eliminate the 5 times winners.
