Croatia Wins Third Place As They Beat Morocco 2-1

Image
Mislav Orsic scored the winner as Croatia beat Morocco 2-1 to claim third place at World Cup 2022 on Saturday. Croatia beat Morocco 2-1 in the third-place match to confirm a consolation prize in the competition.  Zlatko Dalic's side took just seven minutes to open the scoring through Josko Gvardiol. The exciting defender could not keep with Lionel Messi last time out but ensured his impressive tournament ended on a high with a diving header that made it 1-0.  Yet Morocco hit back almost immediately, with Achraf Dari producing a header of his own to equalise. Croatia restored their lead just before half-time with a brilliant curling effort from Orsic that turned out to be the winner. It may have been legendary midfielder Luka Modric's final international match, and if so, he gets to go out in positive fashion. Orsic will steal all the headlines with his winning goal but Gvardiol deserves plenty of plaudits for his performance, particularly as he bounced back well from his ordea...

France Knocks Morrocco To Book A Date With Argentina At The Finals

Image
The Atlas Lions lived up to their nickname by fighting ferociously throughout, but Les Bleus are back in the final after a 2-0 win in Al Khor. Morocco's beautiful World Cup dream has died, but France's hopes of a second successive title live on after they somehow managed to tame the Atlas Lions at a raucous Al Bayt Stadium. After conceding an early goal to Theo Hernandez, the pride of Africa threw absolutely everything at the defending champions. But Ibrahima Konate &  Les Bleus refused to buckle. Didier Deschamps' team just always seem to find a way to win and Randal Kolo Muani sealed victory for France less than a minute after coming off the bench. Morocco's incredible supporters did everything within their power to roar their side to victory but Sunday's final will feature France against Argentina. And, of course, Kylian Mbappe versus Lionel Messi. It should be a head to head for the ages. History will be made no matter what happens. But nobody will ever forg...

The Lionel Messi Show!

Image
Lionel Messi displayed pure class and art as he helped Argentina into their sixth world cup final defeating Croatia 3-0. The seven times Ballon d'or winner scored a goal and an assist on Tuesday semi finals as the Albiceleste moves one step closer to the ultimate price. It was an assist that sealed the deal for Lionel Scolani side as they were already 2 goals ahead before halftime thanks to Alvarez solo goal and a penalty conversion from Messi himself following the foul on Alvarez in the 18 yard area. Messi reminded fans what makes him so immortal as he turned Josko Gvardiol into dust, twisting the defender to pieces before laying the ball onfor Julian Alvarez to clinch his brace against Croatia. As moments of magic go, this one might not be topped.  The PSG star has now scored and assisted a goal in three different World Cup matches, including two at this year's tournament. Since 1966, no player has ever done so in four separate games. Messi had already broken Gabriel Batistut...

Morocco Makes History As They Eliminate Portugal

Image
The Atlas Lions of Morocco continue with their impressive run in this year's world cup tournament in Qatar as they lay Portugal to waste and qualify for the Semi final. Morocco's miracle men have moved on, and they're bringing the rest of Africa along for the ride. The Atlas Lions have emerged as this World Cup's underdog story - and one of the best surprises at any tournament. After shocking Spain, they've now taken down another powerhouse in Portugal with a 1-0 win, and with them, one of the greatest players of all-time, likely ending his chances of ever winning a World Cup. This victory means that Morocco is the first African team to reach the semi final of the world cup after many teams tried and all failed at the quarter final. Facing off with Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal, Morocco held firm once again, requiring just one superhero-like goal from their own striker. Youssef En-Nesyri's goal was a carbon copy of goals scored by prime Ronaldo: a leaping, t...

Brazil Sent Packing As Croatia Proceeds To Semi Finals

Image
The World Cup of shocks continued on Friday as wily Croatia dumped favourites Brazil out on penalties. Brazil are gone, out of the World Cup that they always seemed so likely to win. They were favourites in this game and likely would have been in all of the ones to come. That didn't matter to Croatia as they fought harder than before to eliminate the 5 times winners. If this were David and Goliath, and make no mistake, Brazil are a Goliath, then a penalty shootout is seemingly Croatia's rock, the great equaliser. They pushed the mighty Selecao to penalties and took over from there, with Rodrygo's miss setting the tone for his side's collapse. And that's what it will feel like: a collapse. They seemingly had this settled thanks to Neymar , who had scored a career-defining goal in extra time. Bruno Petkovic equalised in the 116th minute and, from there, it all unraveled for Brazil, both the game and the World Cup. Croatia will play Argentina in the semi finals after t...

Ronaldo Replacement Makes History At The World Cup

Image
Portugal youngster Goncalo Ramos replaced Cristiano Ronaldo against Switzerland and boy did he steal the show!!!. The Benfica man understood the assignment as he scored the first hatrick of this 2022 Qatar world cup . He became the second player to score a hatrick for his nation on the day he makes his first start after Miroslav Klose for Germany in 2002. Santos's side go on to face Morocco for a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup after sending Switzerland home with a 6-1 win. Defenders Pepe and Raphael Guerreiro also scored before Rafael Leao added a late goal in stoppage time. Manuel Akanji scored a rather consolation goal for Switzerland. Portugal advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time, after 1966 and 2006, and will play Morocco on Saturday. Portugal coach Fernando Santos now has to decide whether to stick with Ramos or restore Ronaldo, the top scorer in men’s international soccer. In another match, the Atlas lions roared again as they knock out Spain through pe...

Neymar Back With The Dance! As Brazil Progress To Quarter Finals

Image
Brazil defeated south Korea 4-1 at stadium 974 in Doha to book their place at the quarter finals. The selecao displayed their dominance on the Koreans on the night that saw their star Neymar Jr return to the team. Vinicius Junior opened the scoring with their first shot on target before Neymar marked his return to action with a penalty. Richarlison had won that spot-kick and it was he who effectively ended the game as a meaningful contest, coolly finishing off a move he had started by juggling the ball on his head. Lucas Paqueta added a fourth shortly before the break, meaning Tite could afford to take off some of his stars during the second half. Credit to Korea, they kept battling, and gave their fantastic fans something to cheer when Paik Seung-ho found the back of the net with a deflected strike – but this night belonged to Brazil. In another match,Japan were eliminated by Croatia in a highly contested match which was decided by the penalty kick. The game ended 1-1 after the 90 min...

Mbappe Shines As France Proceed To Quarter Final

Image
Kylian Mbappe scored a brace to help France reach the quarter finals in back to back world cup tournament. The 24 year old provided Giroud with the assist for his record-breaking goal before scoring two stunners of his own in France's 3-1 win over Poland in the last 16 of the World Cup. The veteran striker usurped Thierry Henry as Les Bleus' record goalscorer against Poland, but it was his fellow forward who stole the show. His name will not be there for long, though. On the night when Giroud sealed his place in history, Kylian Mbappe reminded the world that it won't be long before he breaks that record - and many more. Mbappe actually broke a couple of records himself with his second-half strikes. He's the first Frenchman to score four goals at multiple World Cups, while he's also surpassed Pele for the most World Cup goals before the age of 24. France will now face England in the quarter-finals, and with Mbappe in this form, the defending champions will head into ...

Messi Display Class As Argentina Reaches Quarter Finals

Image
Argentina's captain Lionel Messi displayed a work of art to help his side reach the quarter finals. The 8times Ballon d'or winner captained Argentina in perhaps his final World Cup, and so far, so good for the Argentina icon. His latest performance - a goalscoring effort in the last 16 against Australia - was one of his most important, though there are certainly many standout efforts over the years to choose from. There may be more to come, too, as Messi will lead Argentina into a quarter-final clash with the Netherlands. Lionel Scaloni's side are three games from the ultimate price and they hope their Messiah will deliver again in the games to come. The Albiceleste defeated Australia 2-1 with Alvarez and Messi getting on the score board. In another match  The Oranges of Netherlands defeated USA 3-1 to progress to the Quarter Finals where Argentina awaits. The U.S. men's national team were unable to overcome the Dutch thus suffering elimination from the 2022 World Cup u...

Another World Cup Upset! Cameroon Beat Brazil

Image
The 2022 Fifa world cup has been really shocking with some insane upsets and comebacks. Big teams have been humbled by inferior opponents. After Argentina, Germany, Belgium, France and Spain came the latest shock,Brazil.  It didn't cost the Selecao too much, but this 1-0 defeat to Cameroon provided another memorable World Cup moment, and raises questions as to whether Tite's side really should be considered favourites. Vincent Aboubakar's 92nd-minute header secured victory for Cameroon, though it was not enough to secure them qualification to the last 16 due to Switzerland's win over Serbia. Still, this was a famous win for the Indomitable Lions, one to go alongside their famous humbling of Argentina in 1990. Brazil, were already qualified - they will face South Korea in the last 16 - and so made nine changes to their starting line-up. But they lost another player, Alex Telles, to injury and coach Tite is still waiting for his vaunted array of attackers to fire. Gabriel ...

End Of The Road For The German Machines!

Image
The four time world cup winner Germany were eliminated at the group stage again despite beating Costa Rica 4-2 in their group E clash. The Die Mannschaft tried to overturn the goal difference against them but the 7-0 goals Spain scored against Costa Rica were overwhelmingly too high to reach. The Germans started the tournament on a low losing 2-1 to the group leader Japan in one of the surprising upset of the tournament. They then drew with Spain before winning against Costa Rica hence gaining 4points(same as Spain) but the Spanish goal difference put them second. In another match,Japan beat Spain 2-1 to record a 6points finish at group E.In a World Cup group containing two former winners of the illustrious prize, alongside two nations who are largely considered minnows in the game, the very real possibility that the two former winners could go out was simply incomprehensible. But alas, that reality came to be. At least for a while. Spain strolled into half-time with a 1-0 lead and look...
