Ronwen Wiliams Shines As Bafana Bafana Wins Bronze

South African goalkeeper was fantastic again on Saturday night as Bafana Bafana won against the Leopards of DRC in an Afcon third place tie   at the Félix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan . Captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams were the heroes as South Africa beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 6-5 on penalties. After a 0-0 draw following 90 minutes in Abidjan, Williams saved spot kicks from Chancel Mbemba and Meschack Elia to give Bafana Bafana the bronze medal in Côte d'Ivoire. Before Elia had his kick saved, Siyanda Xulu converted to give South Africa what proved the decisive lead in the shootout. Williams saved four shootout kicks last weekend to help South Africa get past Cape Verde after a goalless quarter-final. DR Congo will regret many misses chances during regular time in a lively match while South Africa maintained a perfect record in third place play-offs having beaten Tunisia on penalties 24 years ago. South Africa coach Hugo Broos believes his team should have scored especially in the first half where they had several chances. Lookman Scores As Super Eagles Flies High Into The Afcon Semis

 T he Nigerians super eagles soared so high as they overcame the highly motivated Angola to book a ticket to the semi finals. Ademola Lookman scored in the 41st min- ute to give the Nigerians the well deserved goal after  their skipper Musa was able to make an impressive run to the box before passing it the Fulham loanee who fired it home with a thing of beauty. The Super Eagles edged an entertaining match at Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium but they nearly went behind in the fourth minute through Mabululu but goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili did well to keep his close-range effort out. The lions of Taranga's title defense came to an end on Monday night when they lost on penalties to the host Ivory coast. Franck Kessie scored the winning penalty for the Elephants to fire book them a quarter final match. Ivory Coast were more dominant side in the first half in terms of ball possession but it was Senegal who took an early lead through Habib Diallo's brilliant strike in the fourth minute.  The super Eagles of Nigeria soared high on Saturday night round of 16 match against the indomitable lions of Cameroon. The three times Afcon champions thrashed Cameroon 2 goals to nill in a mouth watering encounter at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium . Ademola Lookman scored a brace as Victor Osimhen provided an assist an a much needed pressure in the front line. Nigeria imposed their dominance on the game right from the word go and came close to opening the scoring in the ninth minute when Semi Ajayi found the back of the net but a VAR check ruled out the strike for offside. Chelsea's poor performance continued on Sunday premier league action against Aston Villa when they lost 1-0 at the Stamford Bridge. This loss leaves the blues stranded at the half bottom of the premier league table having won only one match out of the six opening fixtures of the 2023/2024 season campaign. Although it was a tough game, some might say they could have done better since they created so many chances but failed to score. Nicolas Jackson, Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling were left frustrated when they could not shoot past Martinez who has never lacked confidence between the goal posts. The match went goalless at the break with Chelsea coming strong in the second half but they were reduced to ten men when Malo Gustavo was shown a red card for his tackle on Lucas Digne. Manchester United Dreadful Performance Continues!

Manchester United lost 3-1 at home against Brighton on Saturday league action. This lost ended their one year unbeaten home run at the Old Trafford. Brighton looked sharp and were able to run all over Erick Ten Hag's side breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute with a calm finish from United former player Danny Welbeck giving the seagulls the much deserved lead. United equaliser was disallowed minutes later after Marcus Rashford crossed the line to give an assist from outside the pitch for Rasmus Hojlund to score what he thought was his first United goal. Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro added second-half goals for Brighton to make it 3-0 after poor defending but Hannibal Mejbri replied for Man Utd with a consolation goal.
